I have always been a pedigree junkie wanted to know the bloodlines of all the horses I ride. I think my curiosity in pedigrees and performance horses started as a child when the farm I rode at had a number of ponies by famous Welsh sire Gayfield's Vida Blue. I swear that I didn't think ponies could move or jump badly for a very long time! It made it
very obvious to me that jumping talent is quite hereditary and that looking at a pedigree along with conformational
analysis you could make very informed guesses as to how talented a young horse would be. Early in my professional career I went to work for a breeder who introduced me to KWPN horses and their pedigrees. I was like a kid in a candy shop- the Dutch had years of detailed pedigree, conformation, and performance records to look at! As I continued on, I always made an effort to see what I was riding and file it away in my head. I found it very frustrating that with many horses I could figure out what they were from their brand, but their papers and history had been lost. I thought about how much better trainers could do their jobs finding horses for people if they made an effort to know what bloodlines excelled in their particular discipline. People are starting to recognize the importance of pedigree and conformation in their horses and I believe that the US Breeders will benefit from this when people start to realize that many wonderful, purpose bred, athletic horses are being born here in the US.
My goal as a breeder is to have the whole package- Beauty, Brains, and Athleticism. We produce horses that have the ability to be world class competitors and well loved family pets. The whole package is rounded out by our raising and training programs that is sure to make any horse you get from us your horse of a lifetime. A breeding program is only as strong as its mare base and we have been very specific about the mares we have chosen. They are not only beautiful and athletic, but come from strong dam lines that have produced many horses that have excelled in both sport and the breeding shed.
